Fabulous 50th with a Stormy Sapphire
Turning 50 is a milestone that deserves to be celebrated with something precious. Rather than an overseas adventure, our special client Sarah chose to mark her 50th birthday with a modern heirloom.
“I wanted something to really celebrate turning 50, and embrace the new decade as a positive,” Sarah tells us. “Rather than an experience like a holiday for my birthday, I felt like having something beautiful to wear – an everyday reminder of something beautiful to be celebrated.”
We adore the dark mystery and sparkling radiance of Sarah’s specially commissioned Stormy Sapphire, Champagne and Black Diamond Elevate Halo Ring. Sitting at the centre of the ring is a spectacular 3.22 carat Australian Parti Sapphire, specially sourced and locally cut in central Queensland.
Using a double halo design, Melanie has played with dimensions to hero the beautiful colour of the Parti Sapphire. Surrounding the gem is a double ring of diamonds (the inner ring in black diamonds, the outer ring in champagne diamonds) that elegantly glimmer – without being too ‘loud’.
“I feel like this is a very grown-up ring,” says Sarah. “I love the fact it is unique, the beautiful sapphire has colours so different every time you look at it, and it’s special because the stone was cut to enhance its own beauty rather than cut to a required shape.
“I tend to wear big bold pieces, I don’t have anything fine and pretty; this feels like that, with the sparkliness of the champagne diamonds.”
Through our collaboration, we’ve come to admire just how passionate Sarah is about the Melbourne jewellery scene. “We are so lucky in Melbourne with the range of wonderful artists making jewellery,” she says. “It is very special being able to wear pieces and know who made it, and having been part of that process of designing and waiting for the finished piece.
“That ongoing relationship [makes] the pieces special all over again. I always hope the jewellers feel that as well, when they see their pieces worn and loved for so many years.”
