Bespoke Engagement Ring: Modernising Heirloom Diamonds

We recently completed this stunning bespoke diamond engagement ring for Luke, for a surprise proposal for his partner, Brittany. A couple of years in the making (thanks to a global pandemic), this custom white gold ring design revitalises heirloom diamonds from Luke's family into a modern, sparkling piece.

We had a chat with the lovely couple to find out how their customised ring came to life.

Can you tell us about the journey of commissioning this diamond engagement ring for Brittany?

Luke: The journey of commissioning this Diamond Scatter Elevate ring actually started back in late 2019! And then of course, COVID struck and it really impacted the potential proposal occasion. So once travel was back on the cards, I restarted my conversation with Melanie's team and we got going.

Being an architect, I was super interested in not only the fine detail but also the intricacies of the process, which is why myself and Britt were drawn to Melanie’s work from the outset. I was given a ring by my mother, but as it was not the style of ring that I knew Britt would be after, we removed the diamonds and used them for this bespoke engagement ring design. I really love that we have been able to create a new piece centred around beautiful heirloom stones, that we will pass down to our kids.

How did you find the bespoke commission process?

Luke: The bespoke process was actually really fun. I had the most amazing consultant to work with from Melanie's team; Tessa was an absolute pleasure.

I understood that there was going to be some back and forth with design feedback and I think this is what led to such a unique and beautiful piece. The moment I saw the final ring, I knew that it was perfect, and to have the ability to customise it even further by incorporating our heirloom gemstones was really great.

What do you love most about your engagement ring?

Brittany: To this day (weeks on!) I still catch myself staring into the glimmering central white diamond. Or taking it off and admiring the beautiful intricacies of the diamond settings. I’m absolutely in love with it! I was so struck by how perfect it was the moment I saw it.

If I had to choose my favourite element, I really love the way the central diamond appears to be suspended impossibly, showcasing the bottom of the diamond’s point [the culet]. It is so incredibly unique.
