Contemporary Classics to Delight this Festive Season

Australian Parti Sapphires for Arcobaleno Exhibition

We're thrilled to be a part of Arcobaleno, a group show of contemporary and fine jewellery by local and international artists focusing on the rainbow spectrum of sapphire gemstones. The show is presented by Pieces of Eight Gallery in Melbourne, and is part of this year's Radiant Pavilion contemporary jewellery and object biennial.

The title, Arcobaleno, translates to 'rainbow' in Italian. This group show aims to celebrate the sapphire in all its rainbow-hued glory. Each jewellery piece represents a particular coloured sapphire, with the show as a whole revealing the sapphire's diverse array of spectacular tonal qualities.

Melanie chose to create two show stopping cocktail rings featuring her favourite gemstone, Australian parti sapphires.

"'La Grande Mer' is an opulent ring, the ultimate expression of the cluster styles I have been exploring in my work. It is a celebration of the vast ocean that surrounds our Australian continent. I wanted to push the potential for this aesthetic and carefully hand selected a series of locally sourced Australian parti sapphires in various cuts and sizes for this one-of-a-kind ring. The smaller gems surround and enhance the central stone, creating a decadent and lush ring."

"The 'Harmony' ring is designed to hero a beautifully cut large Australian parti sapphire which is harmoniously balanced with six staggered baguette Australian parti sapphires, inspiring the ring title. It's reminiscent of Art Deco designs but stands alone as a contemporary piece, it's what I like to call a Future Classic."

Arcobaleno runs from September 2-25, 2021.
