Art Love 02: James Turrell's Pharos / MONA Museum

I was so excited to attend the launch of James Turrell's Pharos late last year, which is set in a new wing of the MONA museum in Hobart, especially designed to house Turrell's four major works.

Designed by my father, Nonda Katsalidis, the museum is always evolving and this new wing is like an incredible temple to James's work. It's something that you need to experience more than have described to you. I find there is a transcendent quality to James's work that transports me outside of myself and into a sensory world. His installations are often overwhelming and none is more powerful than spending a session inside his giant pearl-like Perceptual Cell.

This commissioned work at MONA is his biggest and most ambitious yet. Book ahead and also enjoy seeing other outstanding works in the new wing by Jean Tinguely, Charles Ross, Richard Wilson and Randy Polumbo.

Read MONA's interview with James here, and learn about Pharos here.
